About the Project
Living & Dining Renovation – Spring Valley, CA
This client purchased a home that had great bones, but was a bit drab, and they wanted to add character to reflect their fun and lively personality and lifestyle. It’s an older home with orange peel walls and popcorn ceiling. It was not in the budget to smooth the walls or ceiling, so we used certain aspects of the existing space to our advantage in order to add character and give a nice refresh. We transformed the space through emphasis on texture, layers, and color, giving it an overall brighter feel. Rather than shying away from the existing wall texture, we added focal points in the dining area and at the fireplace. The dining area now has a built out bench seating that extends from the walls that have been framed out and painted blue; while the fireplace now stands out in an earthy terracotta orange. The paint in both these areas now make the wall texture look beautiful and edgy rather than out of date. We continued to layer texture on texture, visually through a fun wallpaper, and physically through the fabrics and furniture. The space went from minimal drab to bright with pops of jewel-like earth tones, creating a rich and artistic environment for our client to call home.
